Here is a simple but effective way to find awesome people to follow on Twitter so you can improve the content you provide your Twitter followers (which leads to more Twitter followers and higher engagement).
I call it “follower chaining.”
What you do is look for any high value people you’re already following as a place to start. Look especially for people with a very high follower/following ratio: many followers but they’re only following a few people.
Why? Because in those cases, the few people they’re following are also going to be high-value sources. So you follow a bunch of them and then pick one and look to see who that person is following.
Lather, rinse, repeat. Keep going “up the chain.” What I love about this method is that it’s supremely uncomplicated: it doesn’t involve any other services. You don’t have to jump through a bunch of hoops. You just… click around and follow the value chain looking for awesome people to follow.
People think that retweeting others is a great way to get new followers. And it’s not that that doesn’t work, but…
Don’t just retweet someone, follow who they retweeted to add more value to your own network.I didn’t do this in the video, but another approach is to do a Twitter keyword or hashtag search first, then pick one of those people with a high follower/following ratio and start with them.
Give it a shot and if you like the results, do me a favor and retweet this post? Thanks!
