New plugins are created constantly, so it’s easy to remain unaware of what just may be the perfect plugin for your self-hosted WordPress blog.
That’s why I went looking… just for you.
You might find something in this list you didn’t know you needed until you see it.
Please note that I haven’t tested these, and always back up your blog before installing something new on it and messing around.
PressTrends
PressTrends looks to be a pretty slick statistics plugin. What makes it different from other analytics plugins is that it doesn’t measure the usual stuff in the usual way. It specifically tracks metrics important to blogs: things like post-to-comment ratio and comparisons to averages for items such as number of posts and comments.
Check out PressTrends.
Google Referrer Checker
This one, called Google Referrer Checker, really caught my attention. In SEO, backlinks are very important. But how do you know that Google has indexed the pages out there which link to yours? Because without that, a backlink is pretty worthless. There is no authority to pass along the link if the referring page is not even in Google’s search index.
So what this thing does is figure out which backlinks to your site are indexed by Google or not, and if they’re not it displays a link to them in widget in your sidebar, which you can give a “As seen on” title or something to that effect.
Because this link is on your blog and your blog is being indexed by Google, then there is a good chance (not a certainty) that Google will crawl and index those pages.
Once those pages are in Google’s index, those links drop from the widget.
Chekc out Google Referrer Checker.
Pinterest RSS Widget
Pinterest is hot right now.
And while it may eventually be seen as something other than a site for women, right now it’s still mostly a site for women and I make sure all my female clients know about it. Wouldn’t it be cool if you could display your latest pins on your blog?
Well, looky here: Pinterest RSS Widget.
Bonus: Might as well throw this one in here, too: a Pinterest plugin that puts a “pin” button on your posts so others can pin your content to their boards.
A/B Test for WordPress
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if you’re not split testing, you’re leaving money on the table. But nobody’s going to do it unless it becomes easy. Or at least… easier.
Check out the A/B Test for WordPress plugin.
WordPress Social Login
I recently learned that sites which allow users to log in using one of their social networks have higher interactivity and visit times.
The WordPress Social Login plugin lets other’s comment or log in to your site with one of their existing social media profiles.
Happy… Pluginning?
If you use any of these or try any of them and want to relate your experience with it, feel free to leave a comment. If you have any suggestions for plugins you think I should mention in a future post, let me know!

This is so spooky mate. I was only thinking yesterday that I wish there were more posts updating people on this kind of thing that I actually read.
I just can’t be bothered to follow Tech blogs when 95% of the information either goes straight over my head or bores my arse off!
So thanks!

Glad you like it. Another source I really like is http://wordpressjedi.com.
I think, WordPress Social Login will be of much help for me.. I will try this plugin now in one of my blog…
But I am still wondering whether the comments posted by those login using their social login will still be saved in our blog’s database.
Anyway, I will learn the result after testing the said plugin.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Just like what I said above, I tried the WordPress Social Login, but according to WordPress it has not been tested on the latest version of WordPress. So, I searched for similar plugin and I ended up using the Social Connect plugin…

I remain interested primarily Google Referrers Checker I do not know really.
thx!
I had same concerns as Sustines about WordPress Social Login…Social LogIn seems to have better rating and claims to give access to social profile info. I really appreciated the data on using such a widget, though.
Also delighted to add the Pin It button and RSS for Pinterest. Thanks!

Thanks for putting together this list.
I am installing the WordPress social plugin right now. One question though…will it sync the comments to wordpress database or they will vanish if I decide not to use the polygon in future.
I will also try the Social login as Elizabeth has recommended earlier.
I will update here my findings.
Thanks again…

Good question! You can ask the developers of the plugin, I’m sure.

One question,
What plug in you are using as pop up subscription invite?
Other plug in I have used seem to randomly pop up instead of at a specific event.
Thanks

It’s called Pippty: http://pippity.com/
I love it because it’s the best of both worlds: a popup that gets results without being annoying as hell.

Never heard of pinterest. Please do a post with your top 10-15-20 greatest wordpress plugins. I try to toy around but so much garbage to skim through. The popup for the mailing list as i’m leaving a reply is pretty cool. What is that one called?

The cool opt-in form is by Pippity (affiliate link, naturally
).
I had been wondering the best/easiest way to do split testing on a site – I will have to give the A/B Test a shot once I get to that point.
Thanks again for the tip!

That whole “too many plugins slow down your site” is more myth than fact. You wouldn’t believe how many plugins you can run without slowing down your site at all. The chief problem is badly written plugins, which thankfully are fewer nowadays. Use a caching plugin and test your page load speeds to be sure, of course, but you can use more plugins than you might think.
Thank you for the replay. I will try to see if there is a change in the load speed. Now i’m seraching if you have articles about the SEO optimisation
