Start the New Year Right for Your Business Blog

new yearAnother year is about to end, and where are you in your online business plans? How’s your blog doing?

Not as well as you’d hoped?

You want a fresh start for the new year. You want things to change, to be better and different.

But you feel like you’re spinning your wheels, not getting the traction you wanted.

And just because the year changes over, that doesn’t mean you’ll suddenly have new insights or a new plan.

The clock will strike midnight, the ball will drop in Times Square…

And everything for you will still be the same.

Unless you do something about it. Like, now.

The Best First Step You Can Take: Blog Audit

Sometimes the best thing you can do is stop trying to see around your own blind spots—by definition, you can’t. It takes another person to see what you can’t.

For many people, that other person has been me. Blog consulting is what I do. The form it takes is often long-term and it’s not cheap. And if you were to have me design (or redesign) your site for you? Also not terribly cheap.

What’s been missing from my arsenal is a lower-cost “getting started” option for new businesses or for businesses looking to turn things around. What I’ve done up until now is offer a short free consulting call during which we discuss how I might be able to help you and from there we talk about monthly retainers or site design work. It’s a bit “all or nothing.”

What’s needed is the middle ground.

The Middle Ground

The middle ground, in this case, is a thorough blog review and audit to point out the weak spots on your site and plan out how you could turn things around.

Except done the Remarkablogger way.

Here’s what that means:

  • We’ll spend at least an hour or two on the phone going over your site. I’ll tell you what’s problematic in your design, your content and your overall approach. I will be very frank with you.
  • As part of this I’ll ask you a lot of questions. If we want to have a step-by-step plan you can carry out with confidence starting in January, it’s necessary.
  • We’ll both be looking at your site as we speak so we’re on the same page.
  • Specifically, we’ll take a look at the design of your site and what’s working or not working.
  • We’ll take a hard look at your content and how well it matches the needs of your customers… or not. And if not, what needs to happen so that it does.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to be grilling you mercilessly. It’s actually a very fun process, as you’ll see in the sample video below.

Avoiding Overwhelm

When I’m in a heavy and deep consulting session, the insights and revelations for clients can come rapidly. This often leaves people feeling overwhelmed. Trying to take notes often doesn’t work because you can’t listen, watch what’s on your screen, converse with me and write notes at the same time. And if you can’t take notes then you worry you’ll forget stuff.

But we’re not going to have any problems with overwhelm or note-taking at all, because I’m going to record our session as a video and make that video available to you to watch any time you wish.

That way, you can take all the notes you want at your own pace because you can pause or forward/rewind the video. Our session will still make your head spin, but we’ll greatly reduce feelings of overwhelm.

Watch This Sample

Christian Russell’s site, Dangerous Tactics, doesn’t look anything like what you see in the video above.

That’s because he followed my suggestions and greatly improved his site—and his business—as a result.

The video of your session will be the same quality and style as the video above. Because large files can be difficult to work with over the web, your video will be broken down into smaller chunks (similar in length to the one above).

The above video is just a 9-minute sample of what was at least a 2-hour session (if memory serves). If I were to charge hourly the cost of this sort of thing would be ridiculous. I’d rather offer a fair price and do whatever it takes to deliver massive value for you.

This is What I mean by Massive Value

My idea of “massive value” is when you look at what you get for the price you realize you’d have to be stupid not to grab it. Considering a monthly consulting retainer with me is hundreds of dollars a month and site designs by me start at $2500, you’ll be relieved to know that for this video blog audit service I’m only going to charge $299. And you can even make payments.

If you get even part of the results out of this that Christian got, I’d say that’s massive value. If you think so too, let’s get you hooked up with your own Blog Video Audit:

What Happens After You Buy

I’ll get in touch with you via email to schedule our session. At the appointed time, we’ll have a phone call (if you have Skype, great, if not, just use your regular phone). You’ll want to be sitting in front of a computer or device with internet access so we can look at your site together. We will conduct the Blog Video Audit for the next hour or more (up to 2 hours). I’ll edit the video and send you a download link for it so you can watch it whenever you want on your own device (video may be broken into smaller chunks to make this easier for you).

You implement what we discussed during our session and reap the benefits.

The New Year Begins Shortly

In order to benefit from this and improve your business for 2012, we need to move quickly. January 1st is fast approaching. If you’re serious about doing better this year (finally you really mean it) then don’t wait or you’ll just be kicking yourself come February. Again.

I have to get everybody’s session scheduled, conducted and edit the videos and follow up. I figure I can fit 6 of these in before the end of the month. In other words, not only is there a time-based deadline but a limited number of available slots, as well. If I don’t have a deadline it defeats the whole purpose of starting the new year off right, and obviously I only have so much time to do the work, so these restrictions are very necessary.

To be clear:

DEADLINE: Tuesday, Dec. 27, 11:59pm Eastern (GMT -5hrs).

LIMITED SLOTS: 6 people will be accepted for a review of one WordPress self-hosted website each.

UPDATE: Only 4 slots now remain.

Guarantee

If you follow my guidance and for some strange bizarre reason don’t see improvements in your leads within 60 days, then of course only right thing to do is give you a full refund. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

If you have any questions feel free to use my contact form to reach me or just leave a comment below. Otherwise, get back up there and grab your session!

    Hey Michael…

I already signed up, but was in the process of sending you an email from that site, and somehow hit a wrong button and BAM…gone…
I was writing to ask you about the business of sharing a screen…I tried it with someone I recent hired to help me with Aweber, newsletter, email list stuff, etc. and he couldn’t get whatever dealie-bob (technical term…)to work that he was using to try to share a screen…we were never able to share the screen so the work was not as productive as I would have liked…and I still, of course had to pay him…
So…I assume you and I will have more success? If not, I don’t think it makes sense to try to do the work…
Apart from that concern, I hopeful…

    Thanks, Michael!

Char, first of all thanks very much and I’m looking forward to working with you. About screen-sharing: I’ve had good success with it in Skype, but using that particular feature of Skype isn’t necessary. It works just fine with both of us simply visiting the same web page together on our own separate devices and browsers. :)

The feedback from this call (I’m the guy in the video…Yay!!) precipitated a number of changes to the site. Michael, your feedback was super direct and helpful. The call was also just a lot of fun.

I wanted to report that my ambitions described in the video for this to become my primary business have come to fruition. I’ve never had a problem generating plenty of leads from this site. You coming in and tearing it apart was a big part of what helped me finally get it optimized to where I was getting enough results to work with.

Now I just have to follow up and actually work with all these dang clients. Be careful what you wish for, huh?

If anyone is considering whether or not to get Michael’s honest feedback on their site…don’t hesitate. I left the call with a lot of homework, but once I followed through on it, I was SO glad I had done it. You’ll be glad you did it. I promise.

    Thanks again!!

We did this call a while ago. The reason I waited is because I wanted time for the results to come in. Sounds like they’re coming in, alright. :)

Would I be eligible for your audit as I have a blogger blog?

    • Michael Martine
      December 11, 2011 | 12:23 pm

Yes, absolutely. What makes a blog good or bad or what can be done to improve it is more universal than people realize. If you are wondering if there are any good reasons to stay on Blogger or move to a self-hosted WordPress blog, that’s something we can talk about during our session as we go over what your business needs and how to best achieve it.

One question- do you have any before and after examples of blog makeovers? :)

    Thanks again.
