Everything is one.
Back when me and the ex were together, we’d have these long conversations about life/the universe/everything that would start innocently enough about one topic and end up at a point that was so all-encompassing that I would just throw my hands up and shout: “EVERYTHING IS ONE!”
Because it’s true: everything is “intertwingled.” You can’t detangle the threads into simple cause-and-effect even for your own life, because it’s not just your own life: it’s also the lives of everyone who touches you in some way. It’s the same for all of us.
I’ve been feeling restless, lately. Unsatisfied.
I love what I do and enjoy immensely the kind of work my skills and knowledge bring to the table. I love marketing and blogging and general tech & design geekery.
What I don’t love so much is doing it for its own sake or in a “meta” capacity: marketers marketing to marketers marketing to marketers.
I’ve been feeling the urge to apply my skills and knowledge to something more “real” and, frankly, bigger than myself. Something I can get behind, believe in and do what I can to make it the best in the world.
Ever since Headway came on the market, I’ve been helping out the guys behind it here and there, but it’s always taken a back seat to my own business. There were many times when I wished I could have done more for them but felt that my hands were tied by the obligations of my own business.
There’s been a bit of a ruckus raised recently in the internet marketing circles in which I travel, that has prompted myself and not a few other folks to take a harder look at what we’re doing and how we’re doing it. Perhaps a little too much Kool-Aide has been drunk.
Steve Jobs just died, leaving us words of wisdom about the choices we make with our time.
All these threads weave their way through me.
Everything is one.
I was about to redesign and relaunch Remarkablogger with new & revamped services. Not because I really wanted to, but because I felt I had to… and that’s exactly the wrong way to make choices in life.
Thank you, Steve Jobs.
Instead, what I’m going to do is work more closely with Headway Themes and do “real” marketing instead of “meta” marketing. Also, my experience as a trainer and screencaster are going to come in very handy for all the brand-new documentation and tutorials needed for Headway 3.0 (beta release for developer license owners this Monday). There is much work to be done, and it’s work that, at this point, I’d much rather do. Something more real and satisfying for me. And good for Headway, which has no excuse to not completely take the WordPress community by storm with 3.0.
What does this mean for Remarkablogger?
It means no new blog consulting or design clients beyond the current group of awesome people and projects I’m working with. It means I’m not going to do the ebook boot camp or release new versions of any of my existing information products at Remarkablogger.
It means I’m going to be blogging for Headway more than for myself here. I won’t only be blogging about Headway, because we want the Headway brand to be a resource for more than just self-serving “rah-rah-rah.”
I am still going to redesign Remarkablogger, and I’ll keep blogging here—but probably much less frequently. I’ll be enjoying my new role as Headway Ambassador of Awesome.
Everything is one.
