On the 23rd (just a couple days) is the International Freelancers Day Online Conference. It costs nothing to register and attend the presentations. If you do any kind of freelance work, this is going to be well worth your time.
There is a lot of crap on the net that purports to help freelancers earn a better living, but nothing I’ve yet seen comes close to what Ed Gandia and the gang are doing at International Freelancers Academy (here’s my guest post for them about freelancer blogging) and IFD. They are putting out insanely practical advice that works and not charging a dime for it. Their book, The Wealthy Freelancer: 12 Secrets to a Great Income and an Enviable Lifestyle (affiliate link), is the best freelancing book I’ve ever read (and not just because I’m mentioned it it, heh… though you gotta admit that’s pretty cool).
My presentation will be on how turn your lowly About page into a secret freelance sales weapon. Most About pages on blogs are pathetic. Yet it’s a highly visited page on your site. So basically you’re missing a lot of leads because your About page sucks. Watch my presentation to see how to fix it. And by “fix it” I mean you get specific things to do to improve it… not a stupid sales pitch at the end for the “real” product. I don’t play that way.
Presenters were only allowed 20 minutes max time for their presentations. We were encouraged to pitch a product or a website link at the end, which is to be expected. But I would rather use all the time available to give you as much info as possible. If it’s good info, that’s the best “pitch” I can give, anyway.
The conference registration link in this post is an affiliate link. How does a free conference make any money to pay affiliates? They’re going to sell access to the replays. So if you can’t watch all the presentations and want to see them later, you can purchase access. And then I would make an affiliate commission from that.
In addition to myself, there are a few other speakers at this conference you may be interested in, like Chris Garrett, Charlie Gilkey, and Michael Stelzner. If you don’t know any of those names, I recommend you look them up. You’ll discover a fantastic bounty of information.
Hope you’ll be at the conference!

Ive changed my about page many of times and have noticed more sales each month with the better quality I make it. People want to know and see that the place they are sending money to is a legitimate supplier and they wound be getting ripped off.
Perhaps, I can join you… It’s very interesting because it’s free… hehehe…
Absolutely! Hope you will.
I am sorry I missed it. I went and read your post on the truth about marketing your freelance business with your blog. That was really great, I will have to work on my blog for sure.
I will admit to blogging to my peers on one blog in particular. And it has helped me to become a better writer, less afraid of putting myself “out there”. I believe it has prepared me for exactly what you are talking about. Or so I hope!
Now to come up with my one perfect client and write for that person! After I fix my “about me” stuff…
Too bad you couldn’t make it, however I’ll be posting up my presentation here this week so you won’t miss it after all.
Michael Martine is it really free can i also join it?
Please let me know.
It already happened. My presentation is on the blog here: http://remarkablogger.com/2011/09/26/about-page-freelance-sales-weapon/
