Link Journeys for April 9, 2011 – The 55 Degrees Edition

Heya webonauts, here comes not-too-lengthy list of linky lusciousness for you to look at. Why is it the 55 Degrees Edition? Because that’s FINALLY the temperature here in Vermont. Melt, you damn snow, MELT, I SAY!

This week I ended up with a bunch o’ tips & tricks on everything from speeding up WordPress to making video to finding an iPad app developer. Oh, and the funniest lorem ipsum text generator you’ve ever seen. :)  Enjoy!

  • Facebook Comments: What’s Easy Isn’t Always Right is a sobering look at why you might not want to use Facebook comments on your blog. Take it with a grain of salt, as it’s written by the founder of Livefyre, a competitor to Facebook comments and Disqus (used here, for now).
  • Why Companies Should Create a Business Blog covers this most basic of questions in plain English. Some of you are pretty new to this business blogging thing and you may not even feel sure about why you’re doing it. Take comfort in the news there are very good reasons besides “everyone else is.”
  • OnSwipe makes publishing your WordPress blog for iPad simple and beautiful. I might be taking this one for a spin myself.
  • 20 Incredibly Useful WordPress Plugins is exactly what it sounds like. Should you have 20 plugins installed on your blog? Hell, no. But I agree that the ones on this list are worth looking at and some of them probably need to be on your blog.
  • Report: Social Media Worth the Time, just in case you were wonderin’. ;)
  • How To Launch Your First Social Media Campaign for when you’re ready to stop just “doing” social media and engage in something more focused. Get your big kid pants on.
  • 26 Ways to Engage With Customers Using Video is a gem of a resource. I’m a big fan of video blogging–especially for business. And now your options are more open than ever before. You might be overlooking some amazing ways to use video to connect with your clients/customers, so check this out.
  • AppTank hooks you up with iPad/iOS developers for when you need an app for that.
  • Fuck Lorem Ipsum is the funniest random text generator ever. Designers often need “dummy text” in order to figure out text styles and formats for books or websites ahead of having the actual content. For decades, the go-to text for this was referred to as “Lorem Ipsum” because that’s what the first two words of it was. But it gets a little boring, so now we have something to use that will put a smile on our face as we work.

I Love Japan and My Heart is Broken for Her

Anyone who knows me even a little knows I love many things about Japanese culture and art. Sushi. Anime. Music. Robots. Rule 34. The cataclysmic horror of tens of thousands dead and missing and the hardship faced by the survivors breaks my heart. Here is a video that shows a little why I love Japan, and maybe why you do, too. These guys put an insane amount of work and detail into this.

If you can’t see the video, go here (my personal blog, where I first posted it).

But This Isn’t Everything

If you’re subscribed to Remarkablogger by email (not RSS) you’ll be getting even better links than these. They’re included in the email I send out to my list to let them know I’ve published this post. Here’s one example from last week’s email: HuffPo co-founder explains the secrets of viral content. See? That’s the hellzyeah right there.
