Why I Don’t Do Book Reviews (And Why it Matters to You)

If you can’t see the video, come to the blog to watch it.

In this video I talk a little about why I don’t do book reviews and what that has to do with what we decide to do and why. It’s about doing what’s right for you, what resonates with you and screw everybody else: it doesn’t matter what they do (or don’t do).

We let ourselves get so messed up over the “shoulds” and that’s just soul-destroying.

What do you think? Tell me in the comments, I’d love to hear your take on this.

Michael, you have such a nice voice – you need to do more videos! I'm not much for book reviews from bloggers – in fact they rather annoy me and I avoid them. I will read about the book from the author’s site or Amazon reviews though. However … I love to tout about things or people that have influenced or helped me, etc. If that happens to be a book, whether current or “out-dated”, I'll do it and happily.

People can learn a lot from you Michael, especially just about being their unique and worthy selves and doing it their way; not the mapped out, cookie-cutter way. I think that helps liberate people from the paranoia and fear of trying to get this whole deal perfect. ;)

As always … thanks so much!

    Happiness, Elena

Thanks, Elena! Yeah I get compliments on the voice a lot. Good thing,

otherwise the audio version of my ebook would be a pain to listen to, LOL.

I know what you mean about Amazon reviews.

Keep doin' your thing your way!

I'd share my thoughts on your video, but you don't have a transcript, and since I have a deadly slow ISP, I can't watch videos. You'll get better SEO as well as benefit the seeing and hearing impaired (not to mention the ISP impaired) if you just post a transcript with your videos. It's a win/win situation.

Machine transcript failed for the video. If I wanted to write out that much

text I wouldn't have made a video in the first place. :)

I must admit I love books. I read a book a week (on average) and over the past x number of years I think I have completed one book review. I'm the same…I just don't like doing them.

Be yourself…in fact…don't follow the crowd.

Yeah. If you asked me for a recommendation, I'd could give them to you. But

create a review? Um.. no, thanks. Not interested. Which is interesting,

because that means I could at least recommend books, just not spend a bunch

of time & effort reviewing them.

Yes I agreed. I think that helps liberate people from the paranoia and fear of trying to get this whole deal perfect.

I like how he thinks! In fact, while I was reading it I tweeted about it and he got back to me asking how I liked it. He walks the talk. I am a fan!
