Remarkablogger Reader Survey Results

remarkabloggersurveyA big THANK YOU to everyone who helped with the survey. Your feedback is greatly appreciated and it’s a wonderful resource I can use to make Remarkablogger a better place to learn about internet marketing and business. I promised I’d share the results with you so you can see how you compare to other readers here. (Why do people love this stuff? Who knows, but I’m sure on a biological level it all has to with mating. Somehow.)

Let’s take a look at the results:

Age

This one surprised me a little, because there is a common stereotype of people who are into blogs and social media as being young. The reality is very different.

age

Over half of the survey respondents are between the ages of 36 and 69.

Boy or Girl

Are Remarkablogger readers mostly male or mostly female? Turns out the answer is… Yes!

girl-boy

Employment Status

This was a question I was very interested in: employment status. How many were earning a living full time online vs. holding down a regular job?

employment

Nearly 67% of respondents make money online as their sole income or as part of their income.

How Do You Describe Yourself?

Aside from the technicalities of employment, I also asked respondents how did they view themselves?

identify

The clear majority identify themselves as a businessperson or entrepreneur, and freelancers make up a good-sized segment as well.

Longer or Shorter Posts?

This one does not surprise me, but it’s good to see my guess confirmed.

post-length

As you may have noticed, I’ve acted on this one right away by cutting back to two posts per week. The last post for Self Promotion 2.0 is an example of a longer, more in-depth post.

Have You Surveyed Your Readers?

If you haven’t yet surveyed your readers, you really should. You will learn a lot that will help you make a better content strategy and understand your audience. When you understand your audience, you can more effectively meet their needs (and meeting their needs is the key to meeting yours). You can easily create and manage surveys online with sites like SurveyMonkey,  SurveyGizmo, or Google Docs forms.

What interesting results! Like you, I was surprised to see the quantity of “older” readers and also the large number of entrepreneurs.

Okay, Michael, now that you have all this great data, other than the item of longer vs. shorter posts, how do you plan to put this information to use?

  • http://remarkablogger.com Michael Martine, Blog Consultant

@Susan – I don’t know all of the ways in which this information will be put to use just yet, but I know some of them immediately. One area that will be influenced by this information will be post topics. They will be aimed more squarely at entrepreneurs and business owners.

Also, since many of the respondents indicated that they are still working a “regular” job, time management and return on time invested issues will be something to look at, too.

Thanks for such a great question!
