Bloggers seem to operate in a very small mental box. They tend to forget there is the entire rest of the world, where certain problems have already been figured out, such as establishing credibility for yourself as an expert… even though you are virtually unknown.
In this audio, I explain how to “borrow” credibility through citing the work of others in your posts, which is something book authors have long known.
There is a dead spot about halfway through where I had a mild brain fart and couldn’t find the words I wanted. Be patient, I get going again in a few seconds.
If you can’t see the audio player above in your email or reader, please swing by Remarkablogger for a listen.

Good points. Earl Nightingale once said that anyone can become an expert in something in 2 years if they apply themselves.
Michael,
Great post. Very powerful way of developing authority, especially if you add your own thoughts about the experts that you cite.
Thanks,
John
Excellent post, Michael!
I am a well-respected expert in an area that has been my primary focus for the past three decades, but that’s not the area that my new business venture will focus on. I have been continually reading, listening, and following the experts in each of the areas that will be pertinent; thanks to this audio post I now know a more fruitful way of putting that newly-gained knowledge to use!
@Leo – It is possible to gain significant ground through concentrated study/experience. Nightingale knew what he was talking about. His material can be found online and read for free, nowadays, and is worth a look.
@John – Yup, thanks!
@Mary – Often you can parlay your expertise in one area to another through strength-of-character style testimonials. Good luck in the new venture!
Good post Michael,
“Bloggers seem to operate in a very small mental box”…
Very true, indeed most problems are solved and if you put a little effort in Google search everything should be found.
A sound way to build knowlegde, I always do research on google for little things I am unsure of as I write in my blog, and I have learned a great deal from this method.
Great Article Michael.
I always research a subject before I blog about it, in my line of work I ofter have to write articles on subjects that I know nothing about, but after about twenty minutes of reading aarticles from other experts it is amazing how much you can learn.
