If you’re an attorney, the most complete law practice blog marketing resource on the web just opened its doors this morning. It’s called Blawging Lawyers, and it’s the product of my partnership with Grant Griffiths.
I really have no idea how many of you are attorneys (say hi in the comments!) but even if you’re not a lawyer, you should find this interesting for several reasons. And by “interesting,” I don’t mean sign up, because if you’re not a lawyer there wouldn’t be much point. No, by “interesting,” I mean in a you-can-learn-from-this kind of way.
- I’ve partnered with someone who is an expert in a field I know nothing about (law) but who also happens to know a great deal about blogging in this field
- Our combined experience, knowledge, and resources allowed this happen quite quickly and smoothly. This has been been a 2-month project. We made this happen at “internet speed.”
- Instead of trying to make money from blogging itself, I’ve parlayed my knowledge and experience about blogging into helping others in a specialized niche learn this as it relates to them. (And yes there are many specific things about law practice blogging other fields don’t have to worry about.)
- We’ve harnessed the power of social media networks and other people’s email lists in order to build up a list of affiliate partners to sell enrollments in Blawging Lawyers. We’ve even created a specific Twitter account.
- We’re selling something that’s much-needed by this market and well-worth paying for, but we’re not charging outrageous membership fees–it’s a totally fair value. Lawyers expect to be gouged just because they’re lawyers, and we’re not doing that.
- What we’re selling (in the product sense) is access to resources in a membership environment so that attorneys can learn how to grow their practices through blog marketing. This is an “information product” at its best: actionable information that members can put into practice and get results which allow them to live the lifestyle they desire.
If you’ve been blogging and building an audience, and you’re wondering how you’re going to really earn a decent and ethical living online, I highly suggest looking for great partners and consider creating an information product together. Whether it’s a membership site, an ebook, or whatever, it’s a great way to do business online.

Blawging Lawyers ROCKS! I am happy to know you both — in that whole social media sense of the word. I was so excited when Grant told me the two of you were collaborating on this, and I’m even more excited now that it’s launched.
There is definitely something to be said for social media. I am so profoundly grateful for the folks I’ve met through blogs and twitter — people I’ve collaborated with, hired, referred work back and forth too, and of course those who have hired me. I never could have imagined that I would meet so many awesome people on a site like Twitter. Even now that it’s happened I’m still in awe every day.
You and Grant seem to make a really good team.
So while I said I was going to quit your RSS, I am still holding out hope you’ll have good content.
This is a post of good content. You’ve laid out why you’re doing something instead of trying to sell me on it. Which to me is authentic and made me email the lawyers I know (few, as I don’t like the specie all that much) and told them to join. No, demanded they did.
So keep talking about the *why* and *how*, not the *buy* and I’ll keep listening.
Good luck!
Congrats on the new venture, Michael and Grant.
Thanks everyone! Grant is a great guy to work with. We get along famously, as they say. There will be more coming from us down the road, for sure.
