Hi Michael,

It is certainly scary out there(especially here in the UK). BUT, even though times are tough and people are scared of losing their jobs, it is also a time of opportunity if people would think out of the box and look around them more.......

With jobs so hard to come by these days many people are beginning to start their own small businesses to bring in extra income or start a whole new life.

I personally feel that many people will start their own businesses in the next 1-2 years because people will struggle to get jobs after losing their old jobor they will struggle to get the kind of money they were on before and hence a business is the obvious solution.

I remember hearing Duncan bannatyne the famous UK entrepreneur speaking not so long ago and he said this; "I was down and out, I had no qualifications, would struggle to get a job, so I knew I had to use my skills to make a business work" The rest is history because he is now worth over £200 Million.

My whole point is that I think the here and now is one of the best times to start a business and change your life for the better.

And a saying to finish the post...."If it's meant to be it's down to me"

In your comment to Alysson you say you have to "know what you can do and offer". As for me, I'm currently working to figure that part out. I think it's central to success online, and the piece of they pie so many lack when they try "making money online".

@Alysson - The opportunity is MEGA. But you have to know what the landscape is, know what you can do and offer, and make it happen. I love your question, but I think different people will interpret that "sound" in different ways: what sounds like the knock of opportunity to some sounds like the slamming shut of a door to others.

Remember how in the 70s and 80s a lot of manufacturing jobs were lost? We saw that coming a mile away, but how many people were proactively seeking to get in on the next wave? Sound familiar? Office workers are now in that same boat.

@Leo - Great points. It's not too late to get started. You can't start too soon. Hell, I wish I had started sooner and I've got a huge jump over anyone who starts now. You can get an online business ramped up fairly quickly if you forget about blogging. :)

This is certainly an unprecedented economic environment and a fundamental change to the world as we have known it to this point. All is not lost and it will provide many with the opportunity take their lives in a new direction.

The real question is: can you hear the knock or have you been deafened by the sound of slamming doors?

Hi Michael,

I imagine that there will be a lot more new people interested in blogging, the internet and making money online as the economy continues to deteriorate.

And believe it or not, I am actually excited about it because I bet that in upcoming years there will be more innovation and creativity.
