WordPress SEO Secrets – People Got Issues

WordPress SEO Secrets is moving off the virtual shelves at a good clip, and I’m quite pleased. The feedback from customers has all been great. People are tweeting and blogging about it, which is cool. But some people (mostly ones who haven’t read the information on the page) have issues with it. Hey, this is normal. I expected it. I’m not defensive: if something needs to be discussed so that a barrier to purchase is lifted, you can bet I’m all for it. :) I mean, seriously, why wouldn’t I want to address them?

The first one has to do with finding information for free online and the second one has to do with the Thesis WordPress theme.

  • Ive been in this field from more than 7 years and i think this is the most usefull information ive ever got over the internet. Realy appreciate and seems its pretty cold there as i saw you wearing warm clothes. Anyway good job man.

    @Valerie - Thanks very much. That's right we did talk a lot about blog SEO during our consulting calls. Very glad to see that's working well for you.

    @Franklin - When a few people take the time to raise an objection, then you know that more people have that same objection, but they never said anything. In selling, objections indicate where you need to better prove the value of your product. When you're selling with words on the page, objections tell you where your copy is weak and needs to be strengthened.

    On a blog, an unaddressed objection breeds doubt in the mind of the reader, and doubt does not lead to sales. In traditional sales channels, there is no capability for a potential customer to even raise doubt, because they can't talk back. The right thing to do on a blog is address it. It's actually an opportunity to increase sales.

    Great response, Michael! You're absolutely right - you can spend all your time finding information yourself, or you can pay for the information and spend your time *implementing it* instead!

  • I've been out-of-touch and was not aware of the issues until watching your video. However, I do know that I'm willing to pay for information. I have spent many thousands of dollars over the years for tools, trainings, and conferences to understand the complexities of the ever-changing field of online marketing and SEO.

    I'm often asked, too often, if there is a tool that can "just do SEO." There is no tool or theme or plugin that substitutes for understanding keyword research, how to write copy, how to make a site search-engine friendly and how to go viral on the net an in the SERPs.

    SEO knowledge is power. It takes time to understand and implement SEO. Time is money. This is why companies pay consultants - for their level of knowledge. A lot of that knowledge is on the Web, but you show people how to apply that knowledge. So, you are empowering them.

  • Okay, here's where I step in.

    Paying money for something you can get for free is SMART BUSINESS.

    I can plunk down a bit of money for Michael's book, or I can spend hours searching through all kinds of godawful sites to try and get the same info. I'll have to visit many sites and sift through what's crap and what's valuable. And even then, I'll have to piece it all together.

    I don't have the time or the interest to WASTE my time searching the net anymore. I go right to the pro, and I get the information I need.

    $50? $100? Oh come on. It's a deductable tax expense for business, one, and two, I'm not saving ANYTHING if I spend 5 hours searching for free when I could have worked and earned money instead.

    I understand budgets are tight, but people have to stop underestimating the value of their time. Looking at dollar value only is short-sighted.

    I myself just started working on a word press blog, and I am glad that I bumped into your page. I completely agree with you and I think you made a valid point. People don't like to spend money when they don't have to and they try and validate that by saying they can get it some other way, but what it boils down too is how much money are they willing to spend to avoid working so hard. For example when people go to restaurants or fast food they COULD have gotten cheaper food at a grocery store and cooked it but instead they preferred to go to a place that has already compiled the product and made it ready for them, and then some of them complain that it costs more because the business has to charge for THEIR time. I think that everyone occasionally makes this accusation of some company or product.

  • People that have an issue with it are missing the point. This addresses SEO in layman's terms, all in one place, and specific to WordPress.

    I am one of those people who has gone searching for SEO info and I've found it...but its in bits and pieces, some of it contradicts what others say, some of it just goes into too much detail about algorithms ans gaming the system...its enough to make people wanna pull their hair out.

    Great point about Thesis. I've used Thesis for over 9 months and still was frustrated with my SEO results.

    SEO Secrets gave me a 200% bump in my traffic from google - in two weeks (5% of my traffic was from Google / then 15% after I did some tweaks from WordPress SEO secrets)!

  • People will always complain about these type of things. If I was you I wouldn't even worry about it. If they do not like it than they should never buy it anyways. I think you should just keep on keeping on.

    Yes people do have issues but I think it was a good move for you to address them in your video. My unspoken response probably would have been if you don't like it don't buy it, but you took the high road.

    You are absolutely correct that this information can be found on the internet, however, as you said, that doesn't mean you know how and when to use it. Also, it's always a plus to have someone else research the information and put it in one convenient package.

    I can't afford SEO Secrets, but you gave me quite a few of them when I hired your services to help me set up my first blog(www.acaregiversjournal.com)and I am still using that information for my current blog. So I know that you know your stuff.

    One off topic point - Dude, get some heat in that office! You look like you are dressed for cross country ski not a web video, LOL ;)
