Recent Blog Launch? Submit Your New Blog Here and Jumpstart Your Blog Traffic!

Note: Comments on this post are now closed. This post had 135 comments and 25 Trackbacks (Trackbacks are still open). This is much better than the first one of these  I did last year. If you check out some of the comments you’ll see people really benefited. But at this point, it’s time to close the comments because the momentum of everyone participating has slowed down considerably. In other words, new comments won’t get the attention they deserve, anymore. Time to close this one and wait for the next! Thank you, everyone who participated in this rockin’ blog traffic event!’

image When your blog is new, the one thing you want more than anything else is traffic.

One of the most successful posts ever on Remarkablogger was back on December 12 of last year, when I wrote Just Started a Blog? Submit Your Blog Here for a Boost!

That post had 92 comments and 14 trackbacks. In fact, it’s one of the few posts I had to close the comments on because people kept submitting their blogs long after it had ended.

It got some launch love action for new bloggers everywhere. Bloggers got a traffic and subscription boost by participating in a “golden rule” type of project. This was the predecessor to my blog pack idea. Unlike blog packs, however, this exercise isn’t based on cultivating real relationships with people (although that could certainly happen!). This is just pure, concentrated, viral blog traffic growth!

I’m calling this the Remarkablogger Blog Traffic JumpStart 2.

Increase Your Blog Traffic

If you just started a blog and want a little increase in blog traffic, here’s what you do:

  1. Leave a comment at the bottom of this post with your blog’s URL in the website field and describe your blog in a short paragraph.
  2. Subscribe to my RSS feed (it’s all I ask in return for helping you boost your traffic).
  3. Make sure you also subscribe to the comments on this post so that you get alerted on every new comment.
  4. Every time a new comment is added, go and visit that blog! This is simply the golden rule at work: do for others as you would have them do for you. You want traffic? Give traffic.
  5. But here’s where it really gets good: Subscribe to the other blogs’ RSS feeds.
  6. Stumble a post or two from the other blogs.
  7. Write a post on your own blog, link to this post so others can participate and write about the new blogs you have found. Link to them.

That’s it!

You Must Participate for this to Succeed

If you just submit your link and that’s it, well, nothing special is gonna happen for you. You see, this is all about instant Karma.

The more you give, the more you get.

Spend time visiting the other blogs, commenting and subscribing to the feeds of blogs you like (you’re bound to find a bunch of them).

You will also get some traffic from my readers who have already been blogging for a while. I’d like to encourage my regular readers to spread the link to this post around: this is one of those the-more-the-merrier kinds of things. So please link, stumble, and bookmark this post at Delicious.

I’m not making any promises about huge traffic, but if last time was any example, prepare to be pleased with the results! :)

Some Rules

Yeah, we got rules.

The following will be deleted or marked as spam:
  • Automated scraper blogs or splogs
  • Adult content blogs
  • Content about illegal activities
  • Hate speech
  • Anything that seems suspicious to me–I reserve the right to make that decision

Ready? Post your new blog URL in the comments!

@Hunter This is an opportunity to connect and find people with like interests. We all have various goals. Personally, I’m not looking for subscribers or links. I took down my old content when I setup my blog and don’t feel it’s ready for “prime time” yet anyway. However, the online discussion continues.

I am interested in the conversation and interaction and learning from others. I’ve read many of these sites and have not commented on all. However, I’ve been enriched by a wealth of information and just wish I had more time to explore!

@Michael, Thanks for opening up new horizons. It’s a great thing that increased traffic is a byproduct for many. :-)

This blog is all about my observations of the world with a technical slant, since I am a technical person and a software developer by trade.

It contains all sorts of interesting and sometimes helpful articles about many topics that I find interesting and that I am sure many other people would also find of interest.

I don’t promise you will love this blog, it may not be your cup of tea, but I do promise fun, informative and well written articles on many different topics.

  • http://cherishingmemoirs.blogspot.com Sasha

I hope commenting twice is allowed ;)
BTW, I think best way to ensure traffic for everyone is to compulsorily (self-discipline) visit the post before yours, apart from visiting ones that interests you.
    What say!

    @Jean
    Hi Jean,
I’m sorry for the inconvenience you experienced trying to subscribe to PassingThru. There are some aggravating limitations in the WordPress theme that I am attempting to correct, including adding the RSS orange chicklet. Being a newbie, I’m feeling my way through code-related changes very carefully.

Go to the home page (www.passingthru.com) and scroll down past the archives in the right column. In the section titled Meta, you will see

    Site Admin
    Log in
    Entries (RSS)
    Comments (RSS)
    WordPress
    etc, etc

Just click on Entries (RSS) and you will be pointed to your aggregator. I subscribed to myself and it does work.

Here is a helpful tip for everyone trying to subscribe to a feed that isn’t working. Let’s say the blog address is

    http://www.thejimgaudet.com/blog/

    Well, I use Google Reader and I can click Add Subscription, it gives an address to type in in the address type this;

    http://www.thejimgaudet.com/blog/?feed=rss2

That will subscribe to the feed via Google Reader. This works for any RSS2 feed.

    Hope that helps,

    ~ Jim

Michael, thank you for the invitation. I have two new blogs. The one I’m showing here provides information about a premium WordPress theme that I found when I was looking for an easier way to set up my personal blog. This theme is the Thesis Theme for WordPress, designed by Chris Pearson. It is good looking, easy to customize, and provides excellent SEO. Anyone looking for a good WordPress theme should take a look at my site.

  • http://www.passingthru.com Betsy Wuebker

    @Michael
Duly noted prior to your reminder. :-D
    @ Patrick
    Looks like a winner!

  • http://remarkablogger.com Michael Martine, Blog Consultant

@Jim – Typing something into the box may not always work, especially if the blog uses FeedBurner. Please allow me to offer an alternate suggestion: Web-based readers like Google Reader have “bookmarklets” available, which are custom bookmarks you can drag to your browser bookmark toolbar. Clicking on the bookmarklet will locate the feed and subscribe you. If a feed exists, it isn’t technically broken. If there’s no visible way to subscribe in the blog, you may be able to do it from the reader side of things.

Having a good blog design that includes this is a good idea, as is using FeedBurner. :)

  • http://acaregiversjournal.com Valerie

    Hi Michael,

Yesterday I had to take a break from reading and commenting on blogs (had to take care of the home front. Anyhow, I just wanted to post a public comment about how this “exercise” has been helpful to me.

As you know, I initially started a caregivers blog in May. The host had a server problem, my blog crashed and burned and I lost my database. Because I didn’t have a backup I decided to start all over with a new host and a stand alone blog.

This all happened when I had just started to get traffic and a few comments. So even though I don’t have a deluge of comments coming in, I get excited every time my e-mail shows me new comments and I’m not easily excitable!

Anyway – for anyone thinking about using Michael for his consulting services, he is very easy to work with. He is helping me with some things and I like the way he keeps in touch to let me know what’s going on. This plug is just my way of saying thanks. :)

  • http://remarkablogger.com Michael Martine, Blog Consultant

@Valerie – Awww, thanks! :) That’s very sweet of you to say.

  • http://www.thejimgaudet.com/blog/ Jim Gaudet

Thanks Michael, the bookmarklets is a great idea.

I can’t believe how much I am reading now on a daily basis. A lot of great blogs here.

    ~ Jim

  • http://www.wilddingo.com Wild Dingo

Neat idea! I’ve had my blog a while. It’s evolved from talking about my web development business and dog (the founding dingo who’s now passed on) to mostly about my new rescue dogs, mental health, some Internet topics and yoga. Mainly though its humor about living with dogs how similar a dog’s philosophy is to yogic philosophy (being present, being happy right now).

I will probably browse through the blogs on this site, but i’m a low tech Internet user. I don’t Tweet, I don’t facebook or use mysepace and I probably won’t “stumble”. I don’t do anything that really chains me to my computer more than a live person or my beloved doggies. I believe computers/’Net to be a tool for learning, sharing knowledge and keeping the mind open, but not a piece of equipment that connects me 24/7 to others around the world as that takes so much “presence” out of life. I also don’t use the ‘Net as a way to increase my own person’s popularity, as the ‘Net has been abused so much in this way, even to cause harm or teen fatalities. So many of the these ‘Net tools today (myspace, tweets, etc.) are just another tool to “look at me” only to be disappointed as the reader when the information is seriously lacking anything useful.

But I’m not completely on the neagtive re the ‘Net! I found this through Pixel Position (a colleague and friend) and I’m a fan of reading blogs I enjoy and now have subscribed to yours!

thanks for this blog. it’s inspired an idea for a topic under my Internet category. and i will surely link to you.

    Hi Michael,

I just wanted to drop by and commend you on your efforts to showcase those who are new to blogosphere. I’ve been blogging for 18 months and in January started a “New Blog Of the Week” series in which I showcase a new blog every week. By paying it forward we help others to get a start and hopefully it’s enough to keep those new bloggers going.

Kudos to you for this great idea.

This is a fantastic Idea. I have been looking around for a site just like this with no luck until now. I feel very lucky to have found it. Thanks Michael, I think this is a great way to get started. I write about Linux and the differences from Windows. Here is a short excerpt.[..]As I started researching Linux I learned that there were many different Linux distributions available for download. I am not going to go into detail on all of them here, instead I will focus on Ubuntu since that is the one that I decided to try and ultimately installed to my hard drive.
First I have to explain about “Open Source” software, and what it means to you as a user and why you should care.[..]
