SOBCon 08 Report – Anita Bruzzese

AnitaAnita Bruzzese speaks about online reputation management and journalistic standards which bloggers can benefit from. I’ve said in the past that blogging has a lot to learn from journalism (and vice versa).

  1. What is the source of your information?
  2. You are known by the company you keep (links and blogroll)
  3. Is the information credible?
  4. How do handle corrections? Make them, and do it quickly.
  5. How do you handle attacks? Respond with facts, do not respond in kind.
  6. Are you being fair? (are you telling both sides of the story?)
  7. How do you encourage worthwhile comments?
  8. How do you manage your ongoing online reputation?
  9. Will what you say stand the test of time?

You can never be lazy when it comes to disseminating information.
Do you have an agenda that you’re not being up front about?
If you want to be inclusive, include some beginner background information.

Audience question: how should you post corrections?
Anita’s Answer: On the blog post itself and as a separate correction, but don’t repeat the original mistake. Just state the correction.

Thanks Anita for the report. For me these tips are very valuable because i blog on Pune real estate investment. “How to encourage worthwhile comments?” is a big issue for me. Readers express anger easily but take time to express ideas and views. I am working on my encouraging techniques.
