I've adopted the philosophy that no matter how smart I think I am, I just assume that the folks at Google are a lot smarter when it comes to links, SEO, trickery, page rank manipulation, etc... I just stick to my own little corner of the net and try to be the best I can be in my niche, so for it's worked well.
