Who is really pushing things on their blog? Who stands out as really unique and remarkable? Not many, that’s for sure! Here are 5 that are in my reader that I think deserve a little link love. Some of them have just begun blogging, while others have been around for a bit.
On Moneymaking
On Moneymaking is not a “money blog” of the usual lame sort. It’s a blog about real money. On Moneymaking is written by Jon Morrow, a man who has plenty of money and knows what it takes to earn it, keep it, and put it to work. He doesn’t provide abstract generic advice, he tells stories from his own life, which is how you know he’s got the goods.
SEO 2.0
SEO 2.0 is Tad Chef, who is one of the wittiest and sharpest bloggers around. Tad offers great advice on SEO (of the 2.0 variety, naturally) and social media optimization. Make sure you don’t miss the page links at the top: there’s some great stuff in there. He’s written some really insightful posts about StumbleUpon. And I love his rants against SEO haters. There aren’t too many bloggers in this space that have a sense of humor I appreciate, but Tad is in a class all by himself. Some of his gems have been my favorites in my Overheard in the Blogosphere posts.
WP Designer
WPDesigner is a highly entertaining and informative guide to WordPress theme design and related issues. A young man who calls himself Small Potato writes some great stuff and has done a couple of great video posts. What I really like about him is that he takes a stand on issues and isn’t afraid to call out the hypocrites, and then on top of it all he puts his money where his mouth is. If you want to see what I mean, go check out his site and catch up on the last few weeks of posts.
Self-Made Chick
Self Made Chick is Christine O’Kelly, a woman who once hitched her way across the USA, and now does kick-ass copywriting and marketing. She just launched a new start-up called Hybrid Media Marketing, which is designed to connect online sales with access to offline marketing channels. Christine has a great way of saying the obvious in a way that makes you slap your forehead like when you need to be reminded about something we all know but somehow had forgotten.
Collective Thoughts
Collective Thoughts is more than just one “remarkablogger” — it’s 8 of ‘em! This is definitely one of those “right idea at the right time” blogs: it’s about social media, and it just happens to have a few people in my extended network in it, like Tad (mentioned above), Andy Beard, and Glen Allsop. If you really want to know how to give and get using social media, Collective Thoughts should be in your reader.
Why Did I Write this Post?
None of these people have paid me or asked me to do this; I’m doing this for two reasons: one, because you all really should go and subscribe to these blogs right now; and, two, because everything I do here is also a blogging example for you, so I want you to do this, too. Pick some new or favorite blogs and give ‘em a boost. You will accomplish several worthwhile objectives:
- You will make someone else feel good, which will make you feel good
- You will strengthen your relationships with others in your network
- You can always write a post like this, even if you’re suffering from blogger’s block
So, try it! Go say something nice about somebody!
