Once we commit to something we want to appear consistent after making the decision. These societal pressures cause us to behave in ways that justify our earlier decision. The key to getting people to comply is commitment. Getting that initial commitment (taking a stand on an issue for example) makes us more likely to agree to requests that are in line with that prior commitment. Personal consistency is highly valued in society. Inconsistent people are viewed as confused and erratic. Being automatically consistent saves us from thinking and spending time dealing with the complexities of everyday life.

Right now, there is something extremely uncomfortable that you are avoiding that is getting in the way of your vision of success

Christine OKelly

This started a dangerous tendency toward counting blog comments, subscribers, and visitors i.e. (mostly meaningless) blog and web site statistics as an success indicator.

I suppose that this assumption is the same as assuming that if a good looking female consultant, writer, TV presenter or speaker includes their photograph as part of their promotional materials, that the primary service they are providing is related to the sex industry.

This is why companies and corporations have a hard time blogging, it’s all about online personality, conversly this is why a lot of blogs are boring.

I really like this idea. It is a great way to add something new to a blog that is different, but still on topic. It also can be done with any blog subject. Who doesn’t love a good quote?

andy’s comment has this unique dimension to it… coming to think of it, she’s so right, the observation is fully valid. yes andy, people fear to be labeled confused or erratic and hence more often than not stick to ideas they started off with. Though in person, they may themselves differ from the earlier ideologies accepted, they do not admit it in public and attempt to maintain a consistent theme of thought and dialogue..

Cheer’s to Andy, boy, i loved the viewpoint u put across for me to chew on…
