Spotlink: 45n5 Blog

45n5screen.jpgI enjoyed creating a Blog Day post a few days ago, but it got me thinking: why not tell everyone when I find an interesting new blog? And by new, I don’t necessarily mean the blog just began. I mean “new to me.”

45n5 is a make money online blog with a definite bent for humor, which I really appreciate. Check out the response to Darren Rowse’s call to create videos of his readers’ blogging offices.

45n5 aims to develop a community of bloggers that can help each other. You can register for free and join them. There are forums and some nifty capabilities for uploading an avatar picture so when you comment, it appears in your comment. So head on over there and check it out. Tell him Michael Martine sent you. It won’t matter and he won’t care, but it will make me look cool.

You’re welcome, Mark. You’re doing something beyond an ordinary blog with the forums and your approach, and that’s certainly worthy of a little link love.

When I first read this post a few days ago I thought 45n5 was a little bit odd. But I took a look at his top 100 list and thought that was a pretty good idea.

The interesting thing is that the Michael Martine blog is listed at the bottom of the 73 on the top 100 with a note that it is in the “Sandbox.” I wasn’t sure if this was a reference to the Google Sandbox or if 45n5 has his own Sandbox and just dropped you in it. Nevertheless, this exchange of compliments was interesting as you both seem to admire each other.

I’m just curious, Michael, if you’ve seen the list and if you might have any insight into the Sandbox comment?

I posted on the list on my own blog as I found it to be intriguing. I was just wondering why you might be listed in the “Sandbox,” and I might be asking the wrong person here, but I am curious.

Allen, the 45n5 sandbox is just his notion of a sandbox. My home page PageRank of 6 is safe for now! ;) The reason I’m in 45n5′s sandbox is because even though my Technorati authority is over 7,000, it’s something of a fluke. These backlinks are from the link to me at the bottom of the free WordPress themes I’ve created, and not because 7,000 people thought I was so great that they just had to link to me. Two of my themes are available on WordPress.com, so that generates a ton of backlinks for me.

So depending on how you search T’rati, I’m in the top 100 or I’m not. I’m not in the top 100 blog for all factors, but I am in the top 100 based on pure authority (the number of backlinks to my blog in the past 6 months). I think T’rati probably looks at my daily traffic and other factors that (deservedly) do not allow me into the overall top 100.

I don’t even really portray my blog as a make money online blog, even though I certainly do make money online by blogging. It’s much more general and blog monetization is only one part of it.

One interesting thing about being in outside the rest of the list like that is that it draws attention to that link and I’ll probably get more visitors than some of the other blogs on the list!

Aaah! I figured something as such because your scores were so high on the criteria used to judge. Makes perfect sense. At any rate, I think it’s more important to have 7,000 links from products you’ve created than to be on some list, no matter how interesting the list may be. :-)

Yes, I put your blog “in the sandbox” because I was waiting for technorati to adjust and also because It might give you some more attention. Hopefully it will ;-) It was the least I could do feeling bad I wasn’t putting you on the list.

That’s cool, Mark. It’s your list and you do whatever you want with it. :) I’m happy to be on it, but even if you took the link out I wouldn’t hold it against you. Like I said, I don’t really portray myself as a make-money blogger.
