One Way to Tell

One way to tell if you’re talented at something and should be doing it for a living is if what comes easily and seems self-evident to you is difficult for others. I was talking to somebody a few weeks ago about blogging and she blurted out, “how do you know all this stuff?” I stammered something about enjoying it and doing it for many years. I was a little taken aback at how she perceived that something which was quite difficult for her came naturally to me. It got me thinking about what the best way is to help people, and how to help more people. The mission of this blog is to help you become a better blogger. There are better ways to do that than just writing general articles for everyone. I can help individuals with their specific needs.

Choosing to Listen

I’ve been helping people with their websites and blogs since around the year 2000, both paid and unpaid (when you’re paid, it’s called consulting, when you’re not, it’s called raving like a madman). Close friends and family have always received my help and advice for free, and they have benefited from that. But now other people are starting to seek me out for help, and so I’m faced with a decision, which isn’t really a decision at all, because it feels as though it’s already been made for me.

It’s all about You

I have been listening. I’ve been listening to the questions people ask me. I’ve been listening to the market: there are tons of blogs out there that seem to be trying to help you with your blog, somehow. You would think that all you have to do is find the best ones, read them, and then follow their advice, right? Except it doesn’t quite work out that way, does it? I mean, sure, there’s really great stuff out there, but first you have to spend inordinate amounts of time finding it, reading through it to make sure you understand it, and then you spend hours trying to implement it. And often you still feel as though you’re not quite sure how to make the information work for you. Everything you’re reading may be about blogging… but it’s not about your blog. It may be written for bloggers, but it’s not created directly for you by someone who knows you and understands your blog, your needs and goals.

Unique selling proposition. Sounds great. If you get real clients tell me and I will change my “industry” :-)

I already have real clients, Tad. I’m just making it “official” and moving it out into the open. I had to decide if it was something I really wanted to “go big time” with. Our services are mutually beneficial, so maybe we can refer clients to each other.

Welcome to the field, Michael! You’ll enjoy it, I think. I started back about two months ago, out of my Inspired Solo site, and thoroughly love it. It’s a nice addition to my law practice and blogging gigs, as I focus strictly on other lawyers. Find a niche and stick with it, and you’ll do well – you obviously have a passion for it!

Mike – Thanks very much. Yeah the field isn’t too crowded, and I’ve already been getting inquiries. That’s why I’ve made it “official.” Thanks for visiting and look forward to your comments in the future.
